The Problem:
- Long distance food supply lines have been shown to be fragile. Wars, pandemics, drought, floods, fires can impact necessary food supplies in our local community.
- Rising costs of food
- Lots of unused and under-utilized farmland in our community
- Various non-profits require food/funds for at-risk group programs such as school meal programs and at-risk families (food bank)
A Solution:
- Organize a group of like-minded individuals who have a passion for community and self-reliance
- Take unused and underused farmland in our community and develop it for small scale intensive, sustainable, eco-friendly farming opportunities. This will provide a local source of various grain, vegetable and animal farm products.
- Acquire a stable of seldom used but absolutely necessary farm equipment and tools to be used by the various leases
- Plan crop rotation and regenerative practices on the various leases to increase and maximize soil productivity
- Work together to source, educate, and seed new farmers on these leases
- Educate the community on the benefits of local food production and how to produce, use and store the bounty of the land.
